Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS)

EPICS is a service-learning design program in which teams of students partner with local and global community organizations to address human, community, and environmental needs.

I was on the Children's Educational Demonstrations team. I was the Design Lead for the Catalyst project, one of three team projects. The goal of the Catalyst project is to develop an interactive model to demonstrate how catalysts work in chemical reactions in a way that is easy for children to understand. Another goal of this project is to get children interested in chemistry and apply these learnings in their classrooms.

I led my team through the design, test, and build phases of the final project based on the prototype of the game created during the Spring 2021 semester.

Each week, as Design Lead, I was responsible for documenting and presenting our Progress, Issues, Goals, and Gantt Chart project updates to the class.

Spring 2022

Again, I was the design lead for the Catalyst game. This semester was very different, however, as the team consisted of me and six elementary education majors. I had to learn how to communicate engineering terms and concepts to help them learn. The goal of this semester was finishing the project for delivery.
