Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS)

EPICS is a service-learning design program in which teams of students partner with local and global community organizations to address human, community, and environmental needs.

Spring 2022

This semester I focused on the electrical system because it was the main part of the project that still needed to be completed. To complete the project, I learned how to use Arduino. I also worked on installing the final slingshot ball launcher. This semester I redesigned the bases to be one piece and used a CNC machine and medium-density fiberboard to make them.

Fall 2021

Slingshot Prototype

I made a prototype of the slingshot base that was added to the CAD drawing. I then cut the wooden base out of 1/8" plywood at Bechtel Innovation Design Center using a laser cutter. I realized there was not a hole cutout which is crucial for the game to work. After fixing this, I stained the box and assembled it using wood glue. I also made and applied the EPICS logo.
